MAKERS
Meet our Makers! We have hand-selected small businesses and artists and gotten to know them through interviews to find out more about them, their work and what makes them make.
Joey Ruthers
With a background in illustration, Joey started making tiny ceramic things to paint on in 2018. She is now a full time potter creating small ceramic worlds in her studio shed. Influenced by folk art, ghost stories and her black cat Maeby, her work often tries to tell a story, but in the end she is ultimately happy if it makes you smile.
Bright Fame Designs
A local artist in Bow East London who makes handmade polymer clay earrings and accessories.
Iris & Me
A thoughtfully formulated range of natural and vegan products to enhance your wellbeing inspired by my mother.
Mother nature provides us with abundant resources to aid our survival. Since childhood, I've been passionate about the health benefits of plants and nature and how everyone can enjoy these gifts sustainably without harming our wildlife ecosystems and the planet.
Forge and Thread
Forge+Thread creates bold, lightweight statement jewellery and accessories lovingly handmade in small batches. Taking inspiration from graphic design, textile patterns, mid-century design, and nature, with a focus on creating colourful pieces to brighten up any outfit and make you smile!
Roj Floral Studio
Roj Floral Studio is a Kurdish female run practice located in Hackney Wick that specialises in pottery and floristry. Gifting flowers is a universal sign to show love and appreciation as well as celebration. Roj Floral Studio does a range of dried and fresh flower arrangements for many occasions such as weddings, engagements, Mother’s Day, civil courtship and many more. They produce personalised floral sculptures for interiors and editorial works.
Djoïna
French illustrator based in London, the main theme of my work is the body, the lines, and the curves, especially the woman body. The human figure is my favourite model, figurative or abstract, black and white or full of bright colours, digital or handmade. As a freelance I work on various fields for different clients while developing my personal art and creating prints and original illustrations.
AKM Ceramics
Audrey Karine Menezes is a ceramicist based in East London. She creates both hand built, and wheel thrown stoneware, characterised by experimental forms and playful glazes. Her designs are often inspired by the landscapes of NZ, her original home. Every piece celebrates the imperfections and surprises of handmade ceramics.
A little potty (Sayra Tekin)
Sayra works with recycled clay and porcelain. She loves to push the boundaries of the natural material whilst showcasing its unique qualities to create clever yet beautiful functional pieces. Sayra specialises in unique commissions and enjoys the process of tailoring each piece to the client, for which please get in touch for an initial consultation.
Renato Pino
Born in the late ’80s in Italy, with a background in architecture, Renato’s art can be considered queer and fluid since it’s no longer the time for defining a genre or labelling something to fit into a specific style.
Ella de Souza
Ella Strickland de Souza is an illustrator based in Hackney, East London, who works primarily with ink.
Kami Studios
Kamipaper makes handmade blank notebooks using upcycled materials and self-published zines. They care about the environment, and sustainability and are interested in the East and South East Asian diaspora.
